Gold Medal Alert

Gold Medal Alert

“A hard battle fought and won.” That’s how Jim described the achievement of Eve McMahon today at the Trofeo Princesa Sofía regatta in Mallorca. This is one of the most prestigious and historic events in the world of competitive sailing, serving as a critical cornerstone for the Olympic cycle and warm up to the World Championships later this summer in Dublin.

The 2026 edition was the inaugural event of the Sailing Grand Slam. As the first major multiclass regatta of the year, it marks the transition from winter training to high-stakes international competition, where elite sailors first “measure up” against their global rivals.

The best sailors in the world were competing this week across all fleets. In the ILCA 6, Eve was competing agaist the greats. She went into the final day in 2nd place and having finished 5th in the first of the 2 gold medal races, she needed to dig deep. And in true McMahon form she did just that, taking first place in the final race to secure Gold overall!
