On 23rd February, 2018 the Minister for Education and Skills, Mr Richard Bruton, T.D. announced the schools across the country that will be partaking in the first phase of the implementation of the new Physical Education for Senior Cycle Programme. 80 schools have been approved to implement either the examinable Physical Education Leaving Certificate subject or the new Senior Cycle Physical Education Framework which is not for examination, or both.
As previously highlighted Sailing is one of the options under the Adventure heading along with Orienteering, Canoeing/Kayaking, rock-climbing and rowing/sculling.
A total of 369 schools applied to participate in the phase 1 roll out which shows a great demand across the country for the inclusion of Physical Education at Senior Cycle. It is expected that the new specification and Framework will be rolled out to all schools from 2020.
